Diplomat calls for education on electronic voting

AN elder statesman and former Nigerian Ambassador to the Philippines, Yemi Farounbi, has noted that with constant education and sensitization, the nation will overcome challenges bedeviling it, using the digital and electronic system of voting.

  Speaking during a book launch titled, ‘The Game Changer for National Transformation’, Farounbi underscored the importance of electronic voting, saying with much enlightenment, voting will be much easier.

   On security, the former  Ambassador applauded the creation of Amotekun security outfit which was recently launched by the South West governors.

  He espoused the need for states to have their security outfit, noting that  security is an individual issue which deals with the people.

  “Security is a community based issue and only the people can determine what they want and how they want it “, Farounbi said  .

  According to him, people relate better with security that is community based because they know when strangers come in and terrain of the community.

  Speaking on restructuring, he harped on the ills of the society, calling for a need to change the system.

  He opined that responsibilities and functions should be designated near the citizens which will create room for good governance and breed experience and knowledge.

  Contributing, President, Voters Assembly, Comrade Erubami cautioned against electoral fraud, saying that peoples’ vote should count.

  He admonished citizens not to vote based on monetary satisfaction.

Also speaking, Mathew Oyedoku stressed the need for patriotism and citizens being agents of change for a better society.

  Reviewing the book, “The Game Changer for National Transformation’, the reviewer, Felix Faleti, informed that the book of 10 chapters and 152 pages addresses major gaps in national development such as: leadership, followership and changing values.

  In his remarks, the author of the book, Wale Adewumi said the book was aimed at galvanizing the people’s power in a constructive way in order to evolve a great society.
