South-East Youth Congress calls for more jobs

PRESIDENT of the South-East Youth Congress (SEYC), Kelechi Ihejirika Ohuoha, has requested the Anambra State government and other governors in the zone to take drastic measures toward creating employment opportunities for youths as the best solution to fight criminal activities in Igbo land.

    Comrade Ohuoha made the clarion call in a press statement issued by the SEYC, in Awka, and thanked Governor Willie Obiano, particularly for the youth-friendly policies and programmes of his administration by offering young people political appointments in the state executive cabinet.

  He commended Governor Obiano for winning the right to host the 2020 Nigeria Police Games which he expressed optimism would not only boost tourism and sports development in the state, but also elevate the state to limelight as the most hospitable and safest state throughout the federation as well as augment the internally generated revenue (IGR) of the state government.

    The SEYC spokesman disclosed that the sports fiesta would immensely galvanize the friendship existing between the NPF and the people of the state through closer intimate interaction amongst the various contingents from all parts of the country who would participate in the sports competition.

    According to Comrade Ohuoha, “there are presently more than 250,000 jobless youths, mainly university graduates now in dire need of gainful employment in the state alone, whereas there are millions of unemployed people queuing up in the labour market in the South-East Zone which ought to be urgently redressed in order to curb youths’ restiveness and escalating crime-wave in the society.”

  He, however, appreciated Governor Obiano’s dogged efforts to make the agricultural sector more attractive to youths through mechanized commercial farming with modern implements and liberalized loan packages for youths and women cooperative societies in the state for bumper food production in the state.

  Comrade Ohuoha further advised that more funds be provided for interested fresh school-leavers to establish their own business ventures to enable them to be self-reliant, employers of labour and thereby contribute their quotas to the economic development of the state and nation, at large.
