Anambra will win medals in Edo – Obiano



ANAMBRA State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, has tipped the state to win laurels at the forthcoming 20th National Sports Festival (NSF) scheduled to take place in Benin City, Edo State, from March 22 to April 1.

  Gov. Obiano made the prediction while receiving a Federal Ministry of Sports delegation that called to present the games’ Torch’ to him at Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia.

  According to him, the festival does not only cement unity among Nigerians from diverse background regularly, by bringing peace and joy to all, but also has become a reputable platform where talented youths are being discovered since inception.

  “This festival is a festival of unity of all Nigerians. It is a festival to encourage Nigerian youths to take the country to the next level. Anambra State will not only compete and participate fully, but her contingents will bring back the laurels of gold,” Gov. Obiano said.

  Receiving the torch which is christened “the Torch of Unity for the 2020 National Sports Festival,” the governor further stated that strategic investments in the sports sector is added impetus to make Anambra youths soar higher than their colleagues from other states in Nigeria.

  He, therefore, urged athletes to prepare well ahead of the games to ensure that they participated in spirit of good sportsmanship and ultimately make Anambra State proud as an encouragement to his administration’s relentless investments in the sports sector.

  Promising that Anambra athletes will surpass their 2018 records, while presenting the unity torch to Gov. Obiano, Chairman of Anambra State Sports Development Commission, Chief Tony Oli stated that the games will continue to bring Nigerians together.

  Meanwhile, Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare has said that the 2020 National Sports Festival in Edo State will not be postponed.

  The minister stated this to quell speculations that the event might be put on hold due to coronavirous spread.

  Speaking through Director of Planning in Organising Committee for Edo 2020, Peter Nelson, the minister said that the 2020 Edo National Sports Festival is on track and will go on as scheduled, urging people not to worry about anything.
