Coronavirus fear rocks Aso Villa



THE fear of coronavirus epidemic has spread to Nigeria’s seat of power, Aso Villa leading to introduction of some preventive measures against the deadly virus.

  Staff and visitors were subjected to screening at designated points by the authorities at State House, Abuja, yesterday, with hand sanitisers provided at strategic positions at the Presidential Villa.

  Some staff lauded the management of the State House for taking such precautionary response to guard against the spread of the virus.

  A visitor who identified himself as Kabiru Yusuf urged government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) as well as private organisations and establishments to emulate the State House by putting in place similar measures to check influx of the virus.

  It will be recalled that Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire, had on February 27, confirmed the index case of COVID-19 (coronavirus disease) in Lagos, Lagos State, with an Italian, who works in Nigeria but returned from Milan, Italy, on February 25, as the first established patient.

  But Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) thereafter released a public health advisory on the COVID-19 to Nigerians which included frequent washing of hands with soap under running water or use of alcohol-based sanitisers when water was not available.
