UNIZIK holds 14th convocation



THE federal government has reaffirmed commitment to provide enabling environment for universities to flourish as a credible center of learning and have resolved to tackle youth unemployment.

  President Mohammadu Buhari, made this known at the 14th convocation ceremony of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, on the occasion of conferment of honorary degrees and post graduate diplomas on graduands.

President Buhari who was represented by the executive secretary, National Universities Commission, Professor Abubakar Rasheed, said the federal government, through her various intervention programs like N-power, Bank of Industry’s Youth Entrepreneurship Support Program (YES), is resolved to continue to place high premium on education, since the human resource, if properly equipped with relevant knowledge and skills is the greatest asset of any society.

Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State, represented by the Secretary to State Government, Prof. Solo Chukwulobelu, extolled the honorary degrees recipients, remarking that they enjoy harmonious relationships with the state government.

In his address, the Chancellor, Nnamdi Azikiwe University,  DaJacob Gyang Buba, Gbong Gwom Jos, commended the Governing Council of UNIZIK and the Vice Chancellor, Professor Charles Esimone, for conducting a transparent and rancor free vice chancellor selection process and also urged all relevant agencies and various benefactors of the institution to continue to support the university to achieve more in academic echelon.

The Acting Pro Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, UNIZIK, Alhaji Isa Modibbo,  congratulated all those who were conferred with honorary degrees, and urged them to continue to support the growing mantra of UNIZIK.

UNIZIK Vice Chancellor, Professor Charles Esimone said that he was committed to making UNIZIK among the best 200 universities in the world, adding that he is adopting the core mandate of universities world over which hinges on teaching, research and public community service, in order to excel on push for academic excellence.

In a Convocation Lecture presented by the Chairman, Board of Directors, African Export-Import Bank (AFREXIMBANK), Prof. Benedict Okey Oramah to the University on the topic “Education Key to Realization of Goals of the New Struggle ” he said that education is the key to the realization of the goals of the new struggle as to what should constitute the right value via the best form of Education.

Dr. Emeka Odogwu, who is one of THE PhD holders tasked all the young people to be dedicated and diligent in whatever they found themselves, adding that only hardwork pays.

“Those in academic should be focused and get higher in their academic after youth service rather than wait indefinitely for jobs as the additional qualifications shall grant them access to higher job pedestal.

“The PhD program is the best that has happened to me as it has launched me into another realm of enjoyment if there is life. UNIZIK is the best and I thank God I passed through it”, he said.

Chief Innocent Chukwuma, expressed joy on the awards and assured that he would continue to partner the university in whatever capacity. He said he won’t relent in joining hands to give the institution a face lift.

Also, Chief Chukwudozie appreciated the award, and added that he would continue to support the university.

At the prize giving day, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Charles Esimone announced that Ezeh Gabriel Chukwubuikem from the Department of Cooperative Economics and Management, with a CGPA of 4.83, emerged the Overall Best Graduating Student for the 2018/2019 Academic Session and assured that the institution will retain its best graduating students.

It was recalled that 339 candidates has been awarded the Doctorate Degree and over 2,821 will be awarded a post graduate degree and over 6,750 first degree awardees, with 49 bagging first class.
