Buy second hand tyre, prepare to die –merchants

NIGERIANS have been warned to  desist from patronsing traders on second hand tyres in view of the dangers involved.

   Handing down the warning, the general secretary Association of Nigerian Tyre  Markets, African Tyres Village, Lagos International Trade Fair Complex, Christian Maduchkwu urged those who are in the habit of buying second hand tyres to desist from it.

  He observed that second hand tyres have expiring time, stressing the wires and rubbers are weak and capable of bursting at any time. He said that most of the accidents were caused by the use of second hand tyres.

   His words,” every tyre  has expiry date and those buying them may not know the age and that may lead to fatal accident since every vehicle in motion is as good as its wheel. Those who are buying second hand tyres  are following the adage of penny wise pound foolish”.

   He said that every other things in a vehicle could be managed but tyres.  On the importation of fake tyres, Maduchukwu said that what actually obtainsed in the market was expensive   and cheap tyres, stressing that exepensive tyres last longer.

   He said the association had been carrying out enlightenment exercise through   FRSC and other relevant agencies to educate the public on road safety rules .
