Kogi officials beat bus driver to death over N500

PARTS of Abuja-Lokoja Expressway was nearly closed down by a gridlock that snarled along the Lokoja end when driver of a “J5” commercial bus was beaten to death by officials of Kogi State Produce Inspection Directorate.

An eyewitness said the driver was lynched for allegedly refusing to pay on time a road toll of N500 that was demanded by the team.

According to him, the produce officials pounced on the driver for not bringing out the money on time, beating the man even after he had become unconscious.

Although the source could not confirm if the driver was stabbed, other truck drivers who were angered by their colleague’s death blocked the highway and insisted on seeing the state governor.

This brought traffic to near standstill with motorists traveling to other parts of the country unable to find their way for several hours.

Police Public Relations Officer of Kogi State Command, William Aya, confirmed the incident, while assuring road users that anti-riot personnel had been dispatched to clear the highway.
