Over three million face masks are set for distribution by Anambra State government to sustain the present negative status on confirmed cases of coronavirus in the state.

The kits will be distributed to the 181communities that make up Anambra State.

Gov. Willie Obiano stated this yesterday in a state-wide broadcast to ndi Anambra, shortly after a meeting with Anambra COVID-19 Committee.

According to the governor, there is no single positive case of the virus in Anambra State.

Explaining the intervention as a way of ensuring that everyone walking the streets of the state wears a face mask, Gov. Obiano reiterated that the stay-at-home directive is still in force.

Gov. Obiano also used the broadcast to disclose that 10 samples have so far been sent out for testing with six returning negative.

He equally stated that a 250-bed protection center has been set up at Mbaukwu-Umuawulu and another 15-bed protection centre also set up at Onitsha, expressing optimism that these tracking measures will assist in maintaining zero record of the virus in Anambra State.

The governor also highlighted his administration’s economic stimulus packages to cushion the effect of the pandemic.

According to him, these include distribution of bags of rice to the elderly from 70 years and above, tax reduction for traders and business owners as well as and announced a two month tax waiver for tricycle and shuttle buses operators for April and May 2020, among others.
