Ojoto monarch distributes food items to community



Igwe Gerald Mbamalu of Ojolo in Idemili South LGA, has personally supervised the distribution of food items to all the kindreds that make up the eight major villages of OjotoAkanasato community.

The food items were part of the stimulus package donated by Ojoto illustrious sons at home and in Diaspora to cushion the effect of hunger as NdiAnambra observes sit at home.

IgweOjoto also called on private individuals to assist government in giving succor to the less privileged who do not have savings that would sustain them during the necessary stay at home period.

He thanked Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State for his proactive measures put in place to ensure that Anambra has zero record of Coronavirus pandemic infections or deaths.

IgweMbamalu also commended the governor’s stimulus package initiative which includes distribution of 200 bags of rice each to the 181 communities in Anambra State for the elderly people.

According to IgweMbamalu, “Corona Virus pandemic is not something we wish to experience in this part of the world. All hands should be on deck to prevent this evil.Even before the 14 days sit at home and closure of major markets, we have been sensitizing our people on the need to implement the preventive measures as stimulated by government.

“Ojoto people have stopped any form of event gathering whether burial, marriages or any other festivals. In fact, my Ofala, billed for Easter Monday has been postponed indefinitely.  We had a road show where we discharged passengers from commercial vehicles carrying more than the stipulated social distance numbers and told them to refund some passenger their fares.

 “Some company drivers complained that they were loaded at the park, saying that transport fare was collected at the park, so government should enforce it at the major parks”, he said.

Moreover, he said that knowing that some people live from hand to mouth, and that such people feed their families by daily hustle, he is soliciting funds from certain individuals.

“Ojoto people opened an account where our people from home and abroad raised about N17million . We used it to buy rice, beans, vegetable oil, tin tomatoes, noodles, yam”, said IgweMbamalu.

Similarly, the president General OjotoAkanasato Union, Chief DonatusAnozie was present to ensure fair distribution of food items, saying that the food was for anyone interested whether indigene or tenant.

“Although state government made provisions for elderly people, we decided to raise fund and procure food items for every category of person who is in need of food.

“I thank all our sponsors beginning from our digital IgweMbamalu who understands the plight of Ojoto residents. He doesn’t discriminate; he has been with us since Sunday”, said Anozie.

 Chief IkechukwuOkafor of Ndiabo Village thanked the town union executives and illustrious Ojolo sons for their concerted efforts to alleviate the suffering of the people .
