A RESIDENTIAL building located on No. 47 Modebe Street, Onitsha, has collapsed, killing a child.

The collapsed portions are still at lintel level attachment to an existing structure.

Officials of Anambra State Physical Planning Board (APPB) led by its Acting General Manager, Nwabufo Anene and the Senior Special Assistant to Gov. Willie Obiano on Monitoring and Supervision on Lands and Physical Planning, Joy Nneli, visited the site to avail them with first-hand information before sealing the premises and marking it for demolition.

Executive Chairman of APPB, Chike Maduekwe, declared construction of such building without recourse to regulation is an illegality.

According to him, Anambra cannot allow unscrupulous developers to make the state a death field by floating unapproved structures or build with substandard materials.

Maduekwe used the opportunity to further stress that Anambra is not looking back on massive demolition of unapproved structures anywhere in the state.

Meanwhile, the owner of the collapsed building has been arrested by the police.
