… We must take the fight against coronavirus to finish line – Gov. Obiano

IN A bid to sustain the on-going fight against the global novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Anambra has introduced mandatory use of face mask in all the 177 communities in the state.

Under this directive, it has become compulsory for people to wear  face masks  while going  anywhere  in Anambra State with a provision that anyone seen outside his home without a face mask is guilty of breaking the Anambra State Protocol on COVID-19.

Gov. Willie Obano made the pronouncement in a special broadcast to keep people of the state abreast with latest developments and efforts of the state government in not only containing but also tracking the deadly virus out of Anambra State.

All traditional rulers, religious leaders, the presidents general, women leaders, market association leaders, youth association leaders and every community leader that has influence on the people are directed to enforce the directive.

Transport operators, banks and other businesses are also urged to assist in the enforcement of mask wearing by insisting that their customers wear them as a pre-condition for service.

People are also encouraged to make their own masks to ensure availability of masks but polyester and polythene materials are excluded from the material to be used.

Commending ndi Anambra for their resilience, patience and cooperation in the fight against coronavirus, the governor reminded the people that the danger is not over yet. He also counted on the people’s support as the state government takes the race to the finishing line. This, he added, is to ensure that everybody remains firmly on track.

Giving update on contact tracing, the governor stated that his administration is not leaving any stone unturned in its commitment to preventing the pandemic from spreading further.

This, the governor explained, is why immediately news was received on the Index Case; the government submitted the samples of the 36 remaining people that had direct contact with him for testing in a bid to ensure that there are no loopholes in the fight against the pandemic.

He reminded ndi Anambra that in his earlier address on Saturday, April 18, the people were informed that the first post treatment test of the Index Case in Anambra State had returned negative.

The governor expressed his delight to inform the people that the second test on the Index Case also returned negative. This is why in line with Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) protocol on COVID-19, the governor has directed Anambra State Commissioner of Health, Dr. Vincent Okpalla, to discharge the patient from Protective Care Centre, adding that arrangements have been made to decontaminate his home and ensure that there is no further incident.

Encouraging people to maintain the globally accepted COVID-19 protocol of regular hand-washing, use of hand-sanitisers and other social-distancing rules he had repeatedly communicated in previous addresses, Gov. Obiano advised Ndi Anambra to contact Anambra State Public Health Emergency Operation Centre immediately (PHEOC) on their dedicated phone lines once anyone feels unwell around them.
