Anambra lawmakers committed to COVID-19 fight – Speaker Okafor

SPEAKER, Anambra State House of Assembly, Uchenna Okafor has restated the commitment of the state legislature in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic.

  Mr Okafor made the pledge in Awka, while speaking on the COVID-19 pandemic in the Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS) programme tagged, ‘Nzuko Anambra’.

  He said this would be done through effective legislation and other related measures, explaining the merits of the COVID-19 law enacted by the state lawmakers.

  The speaker noted that COVID-19 bill was passed in order to give legal teeth to all preventive and protective directives issued by Government of Anambra to prevent the spread of coronavirus in the state.

  Okafor commended the lawmakers for the sacrifice they made by holding the emergency plenary for passage of COVID-19 Bill.

  He maintained that the combined efforts of the state government and the legislature helped in containing spread of the disease in the state.

  The speaker expressed gratitude to Gov. Willie Obiano for sustaining the existing security in the state, even in the midst of COVID-19 challenges

  He called on security operatives in the state to join hands with government to ensure total peace and safety of citizens.

Okafor described government’s extension of COVID-19 palliatives to youths of the state as “a wonderful humanitarian gesture”.

  He added that the state lawmakers had continued to provide adequate edible items for their constituents to cushion the effects of stay-at-home directive.
