In Anambra, Nkpor landlord donates food to tenants

LANDLORD of Nos 3/5 Ezeokafor Street, Nkpor Agu, Anambra State, Ernest Ugwunze has donated giant coolers of assorted foods to help his tenants to overcome hardships as a result of COVID-19 lockdown.

The food items comprised a big cooler of cooked rice, big cooler of Semolina and Nsala soup, a cooler of yam portage and assorted drinks.

Mr Ugwunze, represented by Mr Amaechi Ugwunze, explained that the tenants needed more love and care, especially at this period when the entire world is facing hard times as a result of spread of COVID-19 pandemic.

He enjoined them to share foods equitably without any form of rancour and discrimination.

Receiving the food, the chairman of Street Resident’s Association, Mr Sunday Nwobi commended Mr Ugwunze for his kind gesture.

He, however, noted that he was not satisfied that only one well-to-do landlord in the street donated food and other items to help out those experiencing difficulties as a result of `sit-at-home order’.

“The two block of flats on Nos 3/5 Ezeokafor Street, have a total of 12 block of flats with no fewer than 60 residents including adults and children,” he added.

“Most of the tenants in the twin block of flats are from neighbouring states — Enugu, Ebonyi and Imo.”

The chairman, then, called on other well-to-do landlords and tenants of Nkpor, near Onitsha, to emulate the gesture.

One of the tenants, Mr Chikwendu Ezewene and his family are grateful to the donor, saying they will share the food wisely to all tenants.

He described the landlord as a worthy ambassador and philanthropist, who always had the interest of his tenants at heart and ever ready to assist the poor.
