NUP commends Anambra’s anti-COVID-19 campaign

ANAMBRA state chapter of the Nigerian Union of Pensioners (NUP) has described the efforts of the Obiano administration to contain the coronavirus pandemic as second to none in Nigeria.

NUP made the commendation in a statement issued after a meeting of its state executive committee in Awka yesterday.

According to the statement that was signed by its chairman, Dr. Anthony Ugozor and Secretary, Deacon Emmanuel Ebo, NUP said the diligence and efficiency with which Gov. Willie Obiano and his team have managed the plague explains why Anambra state is not among worse-hit states in Nigeria.

The statement also described the prompt treatment and discharge of the index case as “professional and clinical,” pointing out that it served as an assurance to the citizenry that the state government is truly prepared for “all eventualities and contingencies in the war against the COVID-19 scourge.”

Therefore, they explained that they are happy that arrangements have been completed by the Obiano administration-led for accreditation of completed coronavirus testing centers at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital (COOUTH), Amaku, Awka and General Hospital, Onitsha.

Renewing their vote of confidence on Obiano as “the most pensioner- friendly governor in the history of Anambra state, while expressing his regular payment of pensions and other entitlements of their members and urged him not to relent in his compassionate dispositions, NUP equally gave kudos to Gov. Obiano for providing palliatives and motivating good spirited citizens of the state to come to the aid of many less privileged persons in the one hundred and eighty-one communities of the state in this period of COVID-19 menace.
