Speaking at the event, the benefactor, Mrs Obinabo who is the Special Adviser on Special Duties Public Enlightenment to Governor Willie Obiano said the gesture was aimed at cushioning the effect of the time on the people, while also responding to the call by wife of the state governor, Dr. Mrs. Ebelechukwu Obiano who advised Ndi Anambra to assist one another in this period of pandemic.

She extolled the state government’s approach and efforts so far in the war against COVID-19, and expressed optimism that the pandemic and its effects will eventually be a thing of the past, especially through collective efforts and active involvement in championing the fight.

She said, “All hands must be on deck and I call on Ndi Anambra to be actively involved in this fight against coronavirus, for it is only through such collective effort that we can overcome the pandemic and its diverse effects.”

On border security and its porousity, Obinabo who is also a former transition committee chairman of Orumba North Local Government Area, said the state government had devised and started deploying some monitoring and feedback mechanisms across the state’s borders, to ensure full implementation of the border closure, and also ensure that government’s efforts are not sabotaged at the borders.

She further called on Ndi Anambra and the security agencies to play their own parts so as to complement the state government’s efforts in winning the war against the pandemic and in preventing its spread in the state.

Items distributed at the event include bags of rice, beans, tomatoes, onions, facemasks, hand sanitisers, among others others, worth over N500.
