Warning: Stop all mass gatherings now – PTF to state govs

State governments in Nigeria that relaxed sanctions against large rallies have been warned to reconsider their actions, especially on crowded events.

The warning was made by Chairman of Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 and Secretary to Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, during its daily briefing in Abuja today.

According to Mustapha, the call becomes necessary because of reports reaching PTF on relaxation of the restriction on large crowd gatherings in many states since the national lockdown in some states was eased.

Mustapha advised that apart from having potentials of reversing the gains already made in preventing further spreading of the global coronavirus pandemic in Nigeria, unrestrained crowd gathering is against the social distancing recommendation of World Health Organisation (WHO).

Speaking further, the PTF boss also reminded the states that the embargo on crowds numbering over 30 people is still in place and cannot be revoked at the whims of states to suit political correctness.
