38 workers of Ibadan firm test positive to COVID-19

AFTER the 30 cases of coronavirus recorded in a yet-to-be named company in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, another eight workers have tested positive for coronavirus in the company.

  On Saturday, it was announced that 30 staff members of the same organisation based in Ibadan South West Local Government Area of the state tested positive for the disease.

  This brings the number of coronavirus cases in the said company to 38.

  Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde and the Chairman of the COVID-19 task force made this known in a tweet on Monday morning.

  Speaking on Monday on his twitter handle, Gov Makinde disclosed that test results of 11 people came back positive and out of this, eight of the positive cases belonged to the staff members of the unnamed company.

  “18 confirmed COVID-19 patients have received their second negative test results and have been discharged.

  This brings the number of discharged cases in Oyo State to 46.

  Also, the COVID-19 confirmation tests for 11 suspected cases came back positive. Eight of these cases are from the same organisation in Ibadan South West Local Government Area referred to in the update of May 16, 2020. One case is from Oluyole Local Government Area.

  Furthermore, the test results of two suspected cases from the University College Hospital, Ibadan, who passed away and have been buried also, came back positive. So, the total number of confirmed cases in Oyo State is 118 and the total number of COVID-19 related deaths is four”.

  It would be recalled that Governor Makinde, had, while breaking the news of the 30 positive cases, assured residents of Oyo State to remain calm as adequate measures are being put in place to ensure public safety.

  “We are to further reassure the people of Oyo State that there is no need for panic on this matter as all arms of the task force are at high alert to ensure that the situation remains under control,” the statement further read.
