Anambra steps up inter-state movement enforcement

IN continuation of efforts to contain the global coronavirus pandemic from escalating in the state, officials of Anambra Task Force on Enforcement of Inter-State Movement restriction yesterday nabbed an articulated lorry that was heading to Onitsha from Jigawa State.

  There were about 33 people and goats on board the lorry which had registration number MGR 148 XA when it was intercepted along the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway around the Government House, Awka axis. But it was safely escorted back to Anambra-Enugu boundary at Ugwuoba-Amansea axis.

Some of the occupants said they boarded the lorry from Plateau State.

Speaking to the press, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Obiano, James Eze said that even though the occupants of the lorry are Nigerians, their movement contravenes the ban on interstate movement directive of President Mohammadu Buhari in keeping with the COVID-19 Protocol.

According to him, Anambra remains hospitable to people formal parts of Nigeria but the state cannot afford to flout President Buhari’s orders in the war against the pandemic.
