ANAMBRA State Association of Town Unions (ASATU) has called for a stricter enforcement of the ban on inter-state travel in Nigeria.

ASATU made the call yesterday at a press conference held at its secretariat in Awka after a meeting of its executive officers.

According to the union, federal government should investigate and bring to justice those sabotaging the directives on the boundary closure across the country especially those pouring into South-East.

Speaking at the conference, President-General of ASATU, Chief Alex Onukwue expressed disappointment at what he described as “ongoing efforts by some desperate persons to compromise the boundary closure by smuggling persons into Anambra state and other states in the South-Eastern region.”

On his part, Chairman of Board of Trustees of ASATU and President of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Anambra State Chapter, Chief Damian Okeke-Ogene said breach of boundary closure was unacceptable. He called on presidents-general of town unions to mobilise their vigilante groups to ensure that communities are properly protected.

Also in his own remarks, Vice President-General of ASATU, Anthony Ogunna urged governments at all levels close ranks and give more bite to border closure.
