NO fewer than 22 buildings have caved in in a landslide occasioned by flood at Obeleagu Street in Ozala area of Onitsha, in Onitsha North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Also, several other buildings in the area are under serious threat of caving in and residents of the buildings have since vacated for fear of the unknown.

The slide measuring about a 100 meters deep and over 70 meters wide also claimed the premises of The Redeemed Christian Nursery and Primary school in the area.

An indigene and resident of the area, Mr. Yes Obumse who spoke to National Light said the erosion menace started during last year’s rainy season and got worst this season, washing away no fewer than 22 buildings in its trail.

He said that the magnitude of the disaster was beyond the scope of the landlords of the area, calling on the state government to come to their rescue.

“Unless the state government urgently intervenes, most of the buildings here might disappear before the end of this year’s rainy season” he lamented.

National Light reporter observed that occupants of the area are vacating their homes to other locations as the fate of their houses lie at the mercy of erosion threat.
