THE immediate past President of the Knights of Saint John International (KSJI), Awka 434 Commandery, Brig-Gen. G.N. Muotolu, has congratulated Most Rev. Dr. Peter Okpaleke for his elevation as the pioneer Bishop of the Ekwulobia Catholic Diocese, newly created by Pope Francis, the Supreme Pontiff and Holy Father.

Sir Muotolu applauded the carving out of the new ecclesiastical area from Awka Diocese which he described as a befitting honour to Anambra State as the cradle of Catholicism and Christianity with the highest number of four Catholic dioceses throughout the federation.

Commending the Catholic Bishop of Awka, Most Rev. Dr. Paulinus Ezeokafor, and his auxiliary, Most Rev. Dr. Jonas-Benson Okoye, for the “wonderful and laudable roles they played in the creation of the new Ekwulobia from Awka Diocese,” the KSJI henchman expressed joy and optimism over the choice of Bishop Okpaleke as its pioneer prelate.

“Most Rev. Dr. Okpaleke is a very versatile, committed and humble clergyman,” while he expressed utmost confidence that his reign would portend tremendous good tidings for the church and the people of the Ekwulobia Diocese.

He expatiated that he had worked closely with the prelate as former Worthy President of the KSJI Awka, after the demise of late Sir Emmanuel Agbodike, his predecessor, when Bishop Okpaleke was the spiritual director of the knighthood order.

Sir Muotolu remarked that, “the success story of Ekwulobia Diocese will be legion with the type of bishop they have,” just as he harped on the necessity for the lay people and clergy in the diocese to “embrace and do everything humanly possible to enable Bishop Okpaleke render selfless stewardship in shepherding the flocks under his jurisdiction and winning more souls for our Lord Jesus Christ and God our creator.”

On the ongoing rampaging coronavirus global pandemic, Sir Muotolu lamented the devastating socio-economic havoc caused by the scourge and commended Governor Willie Obiano’s foresight in taking appropriate proactive measures to curb the outbreak of the scourge in the state as well as palliative stimulus provided by the state government, philanthropic individuals and corporate bodies to cushion the effects of the pandemic on the less-privileged people in the society.
