Mixed reactions as Wike suspends lockdown indefinitely



RIVERS State Governor, Nyesome Wike has ordered the indefinite cancellation of the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown.

 He made the announcement on Tuesday. However, mixed reactions trailed the unprecedented order from the government as some worried residents frowned at the ease of the lockdown owing to the daily increase in the number of cases in the state.

  Nevertheless, a large number of business owners and daily income earners were seen jubilating at the ease of the lockdown as it has given them a new lease of life in carrying out their daily businesses.

  According to a business owner in one of the local government areas in the state, the suspension of the lockdown is a blessing in disguise as he can conveniently feed his family.

  As at the time of filing this report, the Obia/Kpor Local Government Area and Port Harcourt City Local Government Area, the two local government areas worst hit by the lockdown order, were seen to be bustling with activities as vehicular movements and human activities continued has been activated  on  the roads.

  However, most public places like bars and hotels were not authorised to open while religious centres were ordered to adhere to social distancing during service.

  Meanwhile schools and major markets in the state are still under lockdown. In a recent record by the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), the state has a high record of the coronavirus cases after Lagos State.
