Curfew Not A Control Measure For Containment Of COVID19 Spread, Ibuzo Tells FG

Edward Obiefuna Ibuzo, the lawmaker representing Onitsha-North 2 state constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly has outlined some cogent reasons the federal government should rescind its decision on the ongoing nationwide curfew.

The lawmaker said in as much as the curfew was intended in good faith,it currently appears to be counterproductive because he believes that the coronavirus was not a nocturnal disease. Therefore the curfew should be lifted to ease the sufferings of the citizenry.

Speaking during an exclusive interview with our correspondent in Awka, Ibuzo explained that he could not fathom the reason behind the restrictions on movements at nights, stressing that such policy was antithetical to the war against the coronavirus pandemic.

He said, ” I don’t really understand if we have coronavirus late at night. This curfew is not necessarily a control mechanism because if we had our statistics on the rate being infected at night or that the infection is high at night then we will need the curfew.

” In the UK, initially they had total lockdown when the death rate was high. Now that the deaths are reducing they have graduated to the second stage which is social distancing. They are now planning for the third stage which is the reopening of schools in June, if there is a steady decline in covid19 death rates.”

On the rising covid19 cases in Anambra state , the lawmaker stated that Anambra is the economic nerve centre of the entire nation and beyond, as a result, people came from far and near to transact businesses which ultimately could have prompted the increase even though governnent still makes frantic efforts to contain spread of the coronavirus infections.

Ibuzo further disclosed that he is a member of the covid19 committee of the state assembly and there is certainly no cause for alarm because Governor Willie Obiano is really charged to fight the scourge to a standstill even as he also pointed out that a lot of underground works were ongoing to win the battle against coronavirus pandemic.

He said that Onitsha-North 2 state constituency was not left out in the fight against covid19 infections because he has domisticated covid19 education in the area, following the distribution of facemasks, palliatives, emphasis on social distancing, use of alcohol-based hand-sanitizers, avoidance of clusters and crowd of persons and other protocols.

The lawmaker noted that he has equally ensured that main-market and other markets in Onitsha-North 2 state constituency complied with the covid19 protocols as market leaders made it mandatory that traders and customers alike must wear facemasks to prevent spread of coronavirus during business transactions.
