Harvest Of Road Mishaps As FRSC Rescues Infant In Anambra

Saturday 30th and Sunday 31st May , 2020 could be described as unpleasant weekends following accidents that occurred in close successions at different locations in Anambra state .

Although victims of the road mishaps narrowly escaped death but not without some degrees of injuries and agonies that would linger for a period of time even though victims have been hospitalized. Of paramount concern was the little child that was taken to Obijackson Paediatric Hospital Okija in Ihiala local government area of Anambra state.

The Federal Road Safety Commission’s First Information Reports on the accidents as compiled by the Sector Public Education Officer of the Anambra state command RC Paschal Anigbo disclosed that the road traffic crashes began on Saturday 30th May in front of Con Oil opposite Mountain of Fire and Miracle Church along Awka-Onihsa expressway.

The accident which involved a Marck Tanker ladened with petroleum product crashed due to break failures and loss of control. However two male adults were involved in the accident, though no injuries were sustained and no deaths recorded.

Another fatal accident happened at Umuokpu Awka-Onitsha old road on Sunday 31th May, where an arsh-coloured Toyota Camry Station Wagon and another arsh-coloured Toyota RAV4 collided due to speed limit violation and careless driving.

Four persons were reportedly involved in the crash; one male and one female sustained injuries and were rushed to the hospital by FRSC rescue team .

In a similar development, another crash occurred near a police checkpoint at Okija Ihiala at about 6:30 pm on Sunday where an arsh-coloured Toyota Previa crashed due to tyre burst along Ihiala-Owerri expressway.

However the prompt rescue operation of the FRSC team from Ihiala Unit Command saved the life of a little child involved in the crash and was thereafter taken to Obijackson Paediatric Hospital Okija Ihiala for rapid medical response . No deaths were recorded.

Again a lone accident was reported to have occurred at Uga Roundabout Aguata local government area of Anambra state on Sunday 31st May at about 8pm. The cause of the crash was attributed to over-speeding and the vehicle involved was a black-coloured Hyundai SUV.

The occupants of the ill-fated car were a male and female adults who sustained varying degrees of injuries and were rushed to an unknown hospital by good samaritans at the accident spot.

Sector commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission in Anambra state CC Andrew Ayodele Kumapayi however cautioned motorists againtst wrongful driving as well as ensure that their vehicles are in good condition before they embark on any journey, stressing that it is better to be late than be late .
