In Awka, Perm Site bus drivers decry low patronage amid COVID- 19

  Bus drivers plying Government House Permanent Site through Awka- Amawbia axis in Anambra State have decried low patronage by passengers since the lockdown declared by government to contain the sprad of the coronavirus pandemic.

   National light’s reporters who visited their garage situated in Government House Perm. Site to monitor their level of compliance to Anambra  State Government’s  directive on the number of passengers per  commercial vehicle, wearing of face masks among others due to the coronavirus pandemic observed  that although that drivers were maintaining the directive on the number of passengers, some were seen wearing face masks while others were barefaced even as most drivers sitting in the garage were not maintaining social distancing. 

  Speaking to National Light, chairman, Drivers Welfare Association, Government House Permanent Site, Chinweuko Ejiofor, said that coronavirus was an experience which no one could finish telling the story, adding that it drove everybody home.

According to him, since the lockdown till date, they have been experiencing low patronage.

Ichie Ejiofor advised  Ndi Anambra to adhere to rules given by the state government by maintaining social distancing  ,regular washing of hands with soap and sanitiser, avoiding crowded environment, among others.

Coronavirus is real but  we will come out of it soon. It has not come to stay,” he concluded.”

In their separate speeches, Perm. Site bus drivers, Moses Nwofor, Frances Okpara and Chukwudi,  Ide disclosed that before the lockdown, they had chosen to stay at home to avoid contracting coronavirus ,noting that it is not up till two weeks they resumed work.

 They however, lamented low patronage as most of their passengers are civii servants  and advised Nigerians to avoid contracting coronavius by obeying rules of World Health Orginsation, federal and states governments by avoiding social gatherings, among others.
