In Enugu, police nab suspected kidnappers



IN the process of rescuing three kidnapped victims, the Enugu State Police has shot dead and arrested a kidnap suspect.

  In a statement signed by the Police PRO Enugu state command, ASP Daniel Ndukwe, revealed that the feat was recorded in two separate operations on May 16th and 26th respectively.

  ASP Ndukwe revealed that the operatives and the kidnappers were engaged in a gun duel at their hideout, which led to the death of one and the arrest of the other with severe bullet injuries.

  According to the PPRO, “warm-up to the investigation revealed that two of the victims, a father and daughter, were reported kidnapped on May 15, 2020 at about 5pm, by armed men at a building site in Eziama Abakpa-Nike.

  A combined team of operatives attached to the commands anti-kidnapping and anti-cults units, acting on intelligence, rescued the victims uninjured inside a forest in the said community.

  The third victim was reportedly kidnapped on May 25, 2020 at about 8:30pm in exchange for her son and one other, who were held captive by the kidnappers.

  “However, following a tactical and intelligence operation carried out by operatives of the command’s anti kidnapping unit at the said forest, the victim was successfully rescued unhurt, after intense gun battle with the Kidnappers, which led to the death of one.”

  ASP Ndukwe revealed that things recovered from them were; one AK-47 rifle with breech no. HM9221, 20 rounds of live ammunition, two machetes, four handsets and cash sum of ₦700.00. The suspects sustained severe bullet injuries and in a critical condition.

  State Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmad AbdurRahman, commended the officers for their efforts, urging the publics to assist the police with credible information to enable the police in the state discharge their duties effectively.
