19-year old woman, raped, murdered at home

ANOTHER ugly incidence of rape has claimed the life of a  young  girl, identified as Barakat Bello in Ibadan.

The victim, about 19 years old, a student of Institute of Agriculture, Research and Training, Ibadan, was raped and gruesomely murdered in her parent’s house in Akinyele, Ibadan, on Monday.

In a report, the father of the deceased; Kasimu Elepo and younger sister of the deceased were not at home when she met her untimely death. According to the father, the sister found Barakat lying lifeless and oozing out blood at the back of the house when she returned from Quaranic lesson that very day. “Somebody called me on the phone that I should come home but he refused to tell me what happened. When I got home, I saw that my daughter had been raped and stabbed to death” he narrated in a mournful mood.

Not long ago, the president, Mohammadu Bihari took to his Twitter handle to console the family of a 100 level student of the University of Benin; Uwaila Omozuma, who was also sexually assaulted and murdered by hoodlums at the Redeem Christian Church of God, Miracle Sanctuary, Mega Parish, Edo Province 10, Benin City, last Monday where she went to study her books.

Buhari, while condemning the callous act on Tuesday, ordered the Nigeria Police Force (NPF)  to “speedily and diligently investigate the incidence, ” I would like to offer my deepest condolences to the family of Uwaila Omozuma. I expect the Nigeria Police Force to speedily and diligently investigate this case and ensure that all culprits responsible for this barbaric act are brought to justice” he tweeted.

The Inspector General of Police, Muhammed Adamu in a report said that the perpetrators will be brought to book as there is an ongoing investigation in the case.

The recent wake in number of rape cases within this few days has thrown social media users, human right activists and organisations in agog and  sparked the call on government and relevant authority to make a thorough investigation and justice to be melted on the culprits.
