Omor, Igbakwu communal crises: Group seeks govt intervention

A community-based nonpolitical association, Igbakwu Peace Movement (IPM), has appealed to  Anambra State Government to compel the panel of inquiry on the Igbakwu- Omor Boundary Dispute, to hasten up its actions and make known its recommendation to the state government for immediate consideration and implementation.

The appeal came from the chairman of the association, Uchenna Ndubuisi, who spoke with the press in Awka.

According to Ndubuisi, the state government had in July, 2019, set up a panel of inquiry with a mandate to finding out the immediate and remote cause of the land dispute between Igbakwu and Omor communities, in Ayamelum Local Government Area.

Ndubuisi, who revealed that the panel had concluded sitting earlier this year, expressed optimism that the timely release of the resolutions of the panel to the state government would no doubt, cease any heinous plan by any of the warring communities to invade each other and unleash yet another deadly attacks.

He explained that the Igbakwu- community are known for their kindheartedness, respect for the rule of law and legitimate authority as well as crusaders for peace.

He called on Governor Obiano to deem it necessary to build a police post in Igbakwu, expressing a belief that this would go a long way to forestall any form of violent attacks or counterattack by the communities in dispute.

The chairman, further, promised that the Igbakwu- community would donate enough expanse of land for the erection of a police post in the community if it is considered by Gov. Obiano.
