Oyo gives palliatives to persons living with disabilities



Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, on Wednesday, donated palliatives to persons living with disabilities in the state.

  The brief ceremony, which was held in the Car Park of the Governor’s Office, Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan, is the third phase of palliative distribution in the state.

  The governor maintained that never again in Oyo State would impersonators take what belongs to persons living with disabilities, as the issue of able bodied people taking benefits that belong to the physically challenged and people living with disabilities had been cracked in the State.

  He stated, “When we said they should bring names of people living with disabilities for them to be included in the administration at the local level, some people thought we will not check, so they brought names of able bodied people. We checked them out and removed their names. “

Makinde affirmed that he was working on setting up the agency for people with disabilities as he promised during his campaigns, assuring that it would be done before the second anniversary of his administration.

  A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Makinde, Taiwo Adisa, indicated that the distribution of palliatives to persons living  with disabilitiess is the third phase of the palliatives distribution in the state, with the state having distributed palliatives to 90,000 poorest of the poor households as well as the distribution of seedlings, herbicides, pesticides and other farm inputs to 10,000 farmers in the first and second phases.

Earlier in his remark, the Executive Assistant to the Governor on Disability Matters, Ayodele Adekanmbi, appreciated the gesture by the government on behalf all the other persons living with disabilities in the State.

  Adekambi noted that the Governor Seyi Makinde-led administration is challenged to rally every interest group among persons living disabilities in the state to work cohesively and assiduously.

Beneficiaries of the palliatives appreciated the Makinde-led government for its kind gesture and for identifying with persons living with disabilities.

  The ceremony had in attendance top government officials and heads of homes for the disabled, among others.

Governor Seyi Makinde had, at the onset, promised palliatives to 30,000 vulnerable households in Oyo State.
