Town Unions commend Seventh Anambra Assembly

THE performance of the incumbent Seventh Anambra State House of Assembly under the leadership of Dr. Uchenna Okafor, as the Speaker within the past one year of its existence has been rated highly by a broad spectrum of ndi Anambra.

    In assessment of the legislative arm of the state government which marked its first year anniversary, last Friday, the National President of Anambra State Association of Town Unions (ASATU), Alex Onukwue, said the law-makers are marks for living up to expectation.

    Chief Onukwue said the generality of ASATU members, who are mainly Presidents-General of the 181 communities in the state, were satisfied with the impressive performance of the house, especially the very cordial relationship with other two arms of the government, the executive and judiciary.

    He lauded the internal harmony amongst the legislators, irrespective of their partisan cleavages, and urged them to uphold their enviable selfless service to the electorate through the continuous enactment of people-oriented laws, effective oversight functions and other constitutional responsibilities to ensure better welfare of the people and rapid development of the state.

    The ASATU helmsman seized the opportunity to appreciate Governor Willie Obiano’s exemplary proactive measures to curb the spread of the globally rampaging Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic particularly the palliatives distributed to the entire communities throughout the 21 local government areas of the state.

    He was also full of gratitude for the humanitarian efforts by several indigenes of the state, for towing the governor’s line by donating fabulous financial and material gifts to ameliorate the painful economic effects and sufferings occasioned by the COVID-19 scourge, particularly the less privileged people in the society.

    Chief Onukwue noted that the state had made a quantum leap under the administration of Gov. Willie Obiano in all sectors of the economy, and advocated maximum cooperation and solidarity with the state government by all well-meaning ndi Anambra to enable the governor accomplish his lofty package of dividends of democracy for the betterment of the masses.
