49 health workers among Enugu’s 144 COVID-19 cases test positive



COVID-19 cases in Enugu State have risen to 144 following the confirmation of 68 new cases.

  Among the 110 active cases, with 29 discharged, and five deaths, the number of health workers infected in the state stands at 49.

  Enugu State Health Commissioner, Emmanuel Ikechukwu Obi, has therefore warned residents of the state not to be complacent about the realities of the pandemic as both the high and the low had become victims of the virus.

  According to Dr Okpala, the distribution is two trained personnel per LGA, spanning the 21 LGAs. The idea is that each LGA will have no less than three sample collection sites thereby bringing sample collection very close to the grassroots.

  “With the testing facility at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku, set for activation, our testing capacity, confirmation of cases and treatment will surely increase. This will ultimately help to curb community spread of the virus in the state”, he concluded.
