Herdmen attacks: Fmr NBA Idemili boss predicts food scarcity

… Urges govt, security agencies to sit up

FORMER Chairman, Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Idemili branch, Sylvester Eze has decried the rise in activities of killer herdsmen all over the country, saying that Nigeria may soon be experiencing hike in food price and scarcity of food.

Addressing newsmen in his chambers at Nkpor, Anambra State, Eze called on government to equip the security agencies and allow them checkmate the activities of the killer herdsmen who rape, kill, destroy and occupy the farm lands of unsuspecting farmers.

He said that state government and security agencies should be wary of the influx of the Northern youths to the south in the guise of Almajiris.

“Let there be adequate security to checkmate the influx of questionable so called Almajiris apparently with sinister mission in the South Eastern and Southern States.

“Our governors should wake up. Let it not be Boko Haram under the guise of Almajiris being flooded into the south despite the COVID-19 pandemic and the interstate lockdown.

“They have been smuggling them into the South East states in trickles, new camps and settlements are springing up along our forests cum farmlands even without the consent of our communities. Also, the uncensored open statements from Myetti Allah and the way some herdsmen are being released even after arrest shows that something is definitely wrong with the citadel of Nigeria.

“It is very unfortunate farmers cannot access their farmlands because of fear. This will result to food scarcity and hike in price of food stuff, “Eze alleged.

The legal luminary also suggested that mobile courts should be moved to the state border areas with adequate security presence so that those defying the interstate lockdown would be prosecuted and punished. “Such mobile courts should also tackle issue of corrupt security agents who aid in making our boarders porous”.
