ACTDA urges developers on water channels to stop work

ANAMBRA State Government has warned developers to desist from building on unauthorised areas and water channels or face the full wrath of the law.

 Managing Director, Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA), Amaechi Okwuosa, gave the warning in an interview with journalists in Awka. 

  Venerable Okwuosa said all developers must key into the government’s master plan of a mega city.

   “With over 975 active erosion sites, some of which are traceable to blockage of water channels by developers, Anambra State Government said it can no longer let violators of town planning rules go unpunished.

  “The gully erosion presently threatening the existence of several adjoining houses, factories, farmlands together with undeveloped lands is caused as a result of building in  unauthorised areas and water channels.

  “The governor of Anambra State is duely empowered constitutionally to issue an Executive Order to ensure the protection and improvement of the environment,”

  He added that the agency will continually demolish all illegal structures.
