NMA inaugurates new executive

NIGERIAN Medical Association (NMA), Anambra State Chapter has inaugurated an 8–man executive to run the affairs of the association for two years.

  The members were; Dr. Jide Onyekwelu Chairman, Dr. Jane Ezeonu – Vice Chairman, Dr. Dubem Awachie – Secretary, Dr. Augustine Enemuo – Assistant Secretary, Dr. Onyinye Nwazor financial Secretary,

  Others included; Dr. Duru Ugochukwu – Treasurer  – Dr. Ikenna Melifeonwu – Social Secretary and Dr. Ndubuisi Arua – Publicity Secretary.

  The election was conducted at the association’s secretariat at the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu University Teaching Hospital Complex, Awka during the association’s first Annual General Meeting through virtual technology and strict compliance to COVID–19 dictates. 

  In his acceptance speech, the newly elected chairman, Dr. Onyekwelu pledged to build on the strong foundation already laid by all past administrations and the immediate past executive led by Dr. Emmanuel Monago.

  The NMA boss noted the acquisition of a parcel of land for the NMA secretariat and the ground breaking ceremony which took place at Isiagu on June 25, 2020.

  He thanked Governor Willie Obiano for allowing NMA to acquire the parcel of land which design incorporated a cancer treatment and research centre

  Dr. Onyekwelu said his administration will address the myriad of its challenges such as bringing the doctors together as one with one vision and action, ensuring that personal protective equipment are provided for doctors and the provision of enabling environment for doctors to work in.

  On his part, the immediate past state Chairman of the NMA and ex-ofrficio member of the association, Dr. Emma Monago noted that part of his achievements was to rekindle the interest of NMA members to the association. 

  Dr. Monago used the forum to urge the new executive to place the association first before the individual interests to excel.

Highlights on the occasion were the oath taking by the new executive and the handover ceremonies.
