Don’t reopen schools now – FG



… Directs govt schools not to participate in WASSCE scheduled for August 4

 THE Nigerian Government has put its earlier planned schools resumption on hold until it is considered safe to do so.

  Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, made this known while addressing journalists at the end of the Federal Executive Meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari, yesterday.

Adamu said that Nigerian schools would not reopen any time soon until it was safe to do so because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

He added that no school will participate in the West African Senior School Certificate Examinations earlier scheduled for August 5 and September 5, 2020.

The minister stated that the West African Examinations Council cannot determine the resumption date of schools in the country, emphasisng that it is preferable the students lose an academic year instead of exposing them to dangers.

It will be recalled that the Minister of State for Education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, had on Monday, announced that WASSCE will take place between August and September.
