NIGERIANS residing or doing business in the commercial city of Onitsha and environs have called on the federal government to commence the rehabilitation of Onitsha-Owerri Road to alleviate the plight of the motoring public.
They made the plea while describing the Owerri Road as a death trap to commuters and motorists.
The Trunk-A road, linking the rest of the country to most parts of South-East region, is seen as critical to economic development.
But it had cut off around Nwaziki Street, Awada to regularly cause gridlock and that snarls endlessly especially in the morning.
The ugly situation has also affected traffic situation at Ezeiweka-Oraifite Street Bye-Pass, Awada with dangerous pot holes.
Lamenting the hardship occasioned by the road, the Chairman of Old Motor Parts Dealers Association, Obosi, Chief Samuel Ezeobodo decried the adverse effects of the road on socio-economic activities.
According to him, traders around the area suffer several losses and damages as a result of incessant falling of heavy duty and articulated vehicles along the road.
