Coronavirus: UK procures more 60m doses of potential vaccine

THE United Kingdom has signed a new deal with pharmaceutical giants GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) and Sanofi Pasteur for 60 million doses of a potential COVID-19 vaccine.

  The deal is making it the fourth different types of potential coronavirus vaccines and a total of 250 million doses UK is procuring from the company in the fight against coronavirus pandemic.

  According to source, the vaccine when proven successful will see UK commence priority groups vaccination with human clinical studies of the vaccine scheduled to begin in September followed by a phase 3 study in December.

  The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) said Frontline health and social care workers and those at increased risk from coronavirus top the list of priority in the vaccination exercise.
