… Lauds Obiano on new Md’s appointment
A SURVEY conducted by the South East Youth Movement of Nigeria (SEYMN) on the workings of the Anambra State Road Traffic Management Agency (ARTMA) has commended Governor Willie Obiano for appointing right caliber of persons to key positions in the state.
The survey noted that the great success recorded by the current Anambra State administration is attributable to this right choice and proper focus by the state chief executive when making decisions.
The survey scored the Road Traffic Management Agency high and gave kudos to the agency’s Managing Director, Mr. Pat Obiefuna for the able manner he has been conducting its affairs, describing his appointment by Governor Obiano as very commendable and appropriate.
The interview, which was conducted between April 9 and July 21, 2020, on 8000 persons by a combination of telephone calls and direct interviews, cutting across six major cities of the state, Awka, Onitsha, Nnewi, Ekwuluobia, Ihiala and Agulu, offered information on the respondents’ professional and academic qualifications, backgrounds, ages and sexes, including their exposure to township life.
Analysis of the views of the respondents show that traffic management in Anambra State has recorded considerable improvement since the current M.D, Mr. Pat Obiefuna, came on board and that the agency’s behavioural pattern, its dealings with the public, especially its relationship with road users has been quite cordial. There has been unprecedented rapport between staff of the agency and the general public and in case of any breach by transporters, the agency abhors the use of force but painstakingly explains to the offenders what their offences were.
It noted that traffic in the state has been generally peaceful and that road users, particularly drivers and conductors are beginning to realise the importance of strict adherence to traffic rules and regulations.
The survey also observed that accidents on roads have minimised considerably and that other traffic agencies like the police, the Federal Road Safety Commission, work in tandem with the State Road Traffic Management Agency for better result. Further analysis indicate that the present crop of workers in ARTMA shun corruption, bribery, inducements of any sort, and they do their jobs creditably without minding whose ox is gored.
More analysis of the views of the respondents show that staff of the Road Traffic Management Agency might have undoubtedly been undergoing regular training and retraining on how to conduct themselves when dealing with the public, and how to offer help to passengers and people walking on the road in time of need.
The survey equally examined the head office of the agency at Agu Awka, the working conditions of staff in the office and observed that under the present leadership, much renovation work has taken place there to make for conducive environment. Managing Director’s office has been created, conference hall and training apartments built, and the entire environment undergoing beautification for increased productivity. It further observed that administrative staff in the office treat complainants humanly and take adequate care of seized items, particularly vehicles. There is an elaborate plan to complete fencing of the headquarters to be of uniform standard with the existing fence.
Response from interviews across the six major cities were full of commendations to Obiano administration and the managing director, management and staff of the agency and called for sustainability of the good work.
Chairman of the South East Youth Movement of Nigeria, Mr. Okechukwu Nnaji, from Nike, Enugu State, and its Secretary, Ifunanya Onyenije, from Ozubulu, Anambra State, who led an eight-man executive of the movement for this survey, commended the Obiano administration for its right focus and vision and robust policies and programmes which they said had contributed “in no small measure” to the unprecedented successes achieved by Anambra State today.
