In Anambra, oil operators strike suspended

THE purported strike being touted by  a section of  some operators in the oil and gas market in Anambra State has been suspended as the Government of Anambra State has initiated  sto ensure that things are settled.

According to the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to Governor Obiano on Petroleum and Union Matters (NUPENG), Peter Nwosu, who made this known to National Light, the strike was suspended pending the outcome of the upcoming meeting between the exco of  Anambra State Petroleum Marketers and  Governor Willie Obiano.

Comrade Nwosu also disclosed in a release made available to National Light that through his intervention, Enugu State Depot Community, Anambra State Chapter has suspended their intended strike pending the outcome of their roundtable meeting with Anambra  State Government.

Nwosu urged the public to discountenance a section of the industry in Anambra who are fanning the flames of discord between the unions and the state for self-centered reasons.

He called on all the Petroleum Markerters in Anambra State not to shut down their businesses today because of a trivial issue that is already being being tackled effectively.

“I want to reassure them that Anambra State under the leadership of able Governor Chief Dr, Maduaburochukwu Willie Obiano and Anambra State Government are on top of the matter, exploring all intiatives to resolve their matter”, stated Comrade Nwosu.

The veteran labour leader in the oil and gas sector also asked owners of  businesses in Anambra State “not to panic,” adding that “If anyone is aggrieved or have concerns on taxation,” such individual or group has been provided ample avenues “to channel their grievances to the appropriate authorities”

He added that Anambra State Government operates an open door policy.

He cleared the air on the deluge of falsehood being peddled about the state’s relationship with some operators in an arm of the petroleum service sector.

“Anambra State Government is not interested in chasing anyone out of business. Rather some unscrupulous individuals are trying to hijack the revenue arm of the Anambra State Government thus leading to the issue with taxation.”

According to him, the crust of matter is that the state government has resolved not to “tolerate such unscrupulous acts, any longer,” in other to serve the people better as they expect of their government.

Nwosu urged all law-abiding stakeholders in the industry to go about his business and “be rest assured that Anambra State, under the administration of our able Governor Maduaburochukwu Willie Obiano is committed to the Petroleum Markerters of the state.”

It should be recalled that following a case of signage authorisation rectification that pits a section of petroleum marketers in the state against the Anambra Signage and Advertising Agency (ANSAA), a section of the sellers of the product is spading for a half-day closure of service stations today.
