GOVERNOR Douye Diri of Bayelsa State has directed all civil servants from grade levels 1-12 in the state workforce to resume work from Tuesday, September 1.

Diri gave the directive yesterday during a meeting with the state COVID-19 Task Force at the Government House, Yenagoa.

This was just as the permanent secretary at Bayesla Ministry of Health, Dr. Inodu Apoku, disclosed that 20 out of the 600 candidates taking the West African Senior School Certificate Examination in the state tested positive for COVID-19.

According to Apoku, the total number of COVID-19 test samples in the state from inception of the outbreak till date was 10,234, laboratory confirmed cases 370, number of active cases 24 while total number of deaths was 21.

On the resumption, a statement by Diri’s acting Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Alabrah, said Diri directed the Head of Service, Mrs Biobelemoye Charles-Onyeama to ensure that workers abide by all COVID-19 safety guidelines when they resume.

Diri also directed that, while students in exit classes were taking their examinations, all primary six pupils should also resume academic activities, adding that government was evaluating situations, pending when other classes would resume.

He also set up a sub-committee made up of Technical Adviser on Security, Boma Spero-Jack, Apoku and service commanders to liaise with proprietors of night clubs, supermarkets and banks on ways of ensuring compliance with the presidential guidelines on COVID-19.
