Court remands 44-year-old woman for pouring acid on man

Olawuni Adetoro, a 44-year-old woman, was remanded for allegedly pouring substance alleged to be acid on one Olapoju Olawuni.

The suspect was remanded at Ilesa Correctional Centre by an Osun Magistrate court sitting in Osogbo, the state capital. It was reported that the victim was still in disparaging condition since September 12, 2017, when the incident happened. Prosecutor, ASP Fagboyinbo Abiodun told the court that the defendant committed the offense on September 12, 2017, at about 1:00 am at prime area Osogbo.

 Fagboyinbo alleged that Olawuni Adetoro and one other at large unlawfully inflicted severe harm to Olapoju. He further stated that Olawuni Adetoro unlawfully injured the victim by pouring substance suspected to be acid on his body to the extent that he sustained many injuries all over his body.

He said that the offense committed by Adetoro is contrary to and punishable under section 516,335 and 338 of the criminal code Cap 34 Vol ll Law of Osun state 2002. The defendant pleaded not guilty to the allegation leveled against him by the police.

Defense counsel, Okobe Najite, petitioned for the bail of the defendant in a most liberal term. Nevertheless, the prosecutor opposed the bail application of the counsel, saying that the victim is in disparaging condition and yet to recover.

He added that the defendant had bolted since 2017 when granted her bail, adding that bail could give the suspect chance to abscond again. In his judgment, Magistrate Abayomi Ajala instructed the remand of the defendant in Ilesa correctional center.

He thereby adjourned the matter till September 8, 2020, for ruling on bail.
