Buhari, Okonjo-Iweala, others congratulate Adesina on AFDB chair re-election



PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated Akinwunmi Adesina on his re-election for a second term in office as African Development Bank (AfDB) president.

  According to the Nigerian president, Adesina’s reappointment into second tenure in office is well deserved; adding that Nigeria and Africa are honoured by the victory which stands as a testimony to his hard work and commitment to the development of the continent.

  In a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, the news of the AfDB president’s reappointment came during the National Council of State meeting, which was attended by former Heads of State, senate president, former Chief Justices of Nigeria, governors, ministers, and senior government officials.

  President Buhari, appreciated the African Union for its endorsement of the AfDB president earlier, shareholders of the bank and the international community in unison for their tireless effort in ensuring the return of the visionary leader.

  He  expressed his belief in Adesina’s competency and experience at both national and international engagements, which will be further be infused to energise the pan-African financial institution,

  While urging the newly re-appointed AFDB’s president to remain focused and steadfast in pursuing the noble goals of making life better for Africans through various development plans, Buhari also pledged the full support of his government to ensuring a successful tenure for the AfDB leadership and prayed Almighty God to strengthen him and his team for more positive results to the continent.
