COVID-19: Nnewi marks Afia Olu Festival without pomp



In keeping to COVID-19 federal and state governments’ orders, this year’s Afia Olu Festival in Nnewi was restricted to mini-masquerades to respective villages unlike its vast ceremonies and pomp.

  Igwe Dr. Kenneth Orizu of Nnewi, the four Obis from the four quarters of the town, Nzukora Nnewi and yearly organisers of the cultural festival deemed this fit in order to prevent the spread of  coronavirus in the town.

Igwe Orizu told our correspondent at his palace that it was an annual celebration that usually attracts home coming of their children and remains one of the major cultural festivals of ndi Nnewi which portrays the rich culture.

  He commended his people for obedience to the restriction orders and hoped that  next year’s Afia Olu Festival will be fully celebrated with pomp by God’s Grace.
