Anambra inaugurates road as Onneh Iwaji ceremony



ANAMBRA State Government has inaugurated the Nze Eze-Akunne Road in Onneh Achina, in Orumba South Local Government Area as the community also holds their Iwaji ceremonies.   

  Gov. Willie Obiano, who performed both ceremonies – the inauguration and the Iwaji(New Yam Festival) of the people of Onneh, was represented by his Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr C Don Adinuba.  

  A number of government functionaries and stakeholders from Onneh also graced the occasion.  

  These include Mr Emeka Ezenwanne, Commissioner for Public Utilities, Mr Vincent Okpala, Commissioner for Health, Mr Valentine Ozigbo, Mr T. Egboka, Mr Chidi Offia and Youth President of Onneh town. 

  Others are Dr Kizito Okonkwo, Mr Uchenna Mmaduike, President-General of Onneh town, Mr Enzo Nzeribe, Nze Vincent Nwankwo, Rev. Fr. Okonkwo, Parish Priest of St Mary’s, as well as other village chairmen from Onneh town.  

  In a remark, the PG of Onneh, Mmaduike thanked everyone present at the event and particularly commended Nze Nwankwo for his many contributions toward the growth and development of Onneh town in general.  

  The PG particularly hailed Gov. Obiano for his commitment and generosity to Onneh town. 

  Mmaduike noted that the Anambra State Government sank boreholes, installed street lights and provided some other basic amenities to the people.  

  He expressed delight at the government for ensuring that the COVID-19 palliatives reached the people of Onneh town.  

  “It was the motivation from Gov. Obiano that propelled a philanthropist like Nze Eze-Akunne in working wonders for Onneh town.”  

  Mmaduike, then, admonished all and sundry for helping to keep the peace that had promoted stability in the various communities and towns in Anambra State.   

  Mr Adinuba, on behalf of Gov. Obiano, thanked Nze Eze-Akunne for his many contributions to development of his town.  

  The governor had also extolled the philanthropic nature of Nze Vincent for keying into Gov Obiano’s “Think Home” Philosophy and playing the role of the town’s “torch bearer”.  

  He encouraged all other prominent sons and daughters of Anambra State to emulate the good deeds of Nze Vincent.  

  The governor, then, admonished everyone to key into the medical insurance scheme, through the Anambra State Health Insurance Agency (ASHIA).   

  “If you adopt the health insurance scheme in the community, a lot of lives will be saved. ” 

  Adinuba in his personal admonition, urged the people to adopt the responsive governance style of Gov. Obiano, urging the community leaders to serve their people whole heartedly just like the governor has tried to do in achieving so much in all parts of the state.  

  “Obiano’s extraordinary performance has been the key to the unprecedented prosperity being experienced in the state.”  

  According to him, on security and infrastructure development, the governor has been indomitable.  

  Commissioner for Health, Dr Okpala, while thanking High Chief Nze Vincent Eze-Akunne for assisting the state government in the construction of a road with drainage, promised to ensure that the primary healthcare centre in Onneh would be financially supported to provide service to the people within a couple of months from now.  

  Nze Vincent Eze-Akunne said it was God’s grace that made it possible for him to give his quota for the development of his people.  

  “A lot still needs to be done and I am calling on the state government and other well-meaning individuals to assist Onneh town in the construction of more roads.”  

  Adinuba, on behalf of Gov Obiano, officially unveiled the Eze Akunne Street. He was assisted by Mr Ezenwanne and Dr Vincent Okpala.
