ANAMBRA Joint Task Force has commenced removal of illegal structures on government land in Igbariam, Anambra East Council Area.

Members of the task force, including the State Physical Planning Board and relevant security agencies took a bulldozer to the area which is government land, originally acquired and designated as Igbariam Farm Settlement.

Some of the buildings which were removed include a one storey building, other makeshift buildings, as well as fences.

Recall that on the August 6, 2020, the task force embarked on mass marking of the encroached lands, in spite of which unknown individuals continued to erect structures on portions of the land without government approval.

Some of the farm settlers who spoke to National Light applauded the effort, explaining that unknown persons have taken it upon themselves to periodically destroy their farm lands, even though they occupy the land on government permission.

According to Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Anambra Physical Planning Board, Chike Maduekwe, developers should form the habit of making adequate enquiry from the state Ministry of Lands before embarking on any project.

This, he said, will save them avoidable losses, stressing that they are already compiling a list of defaulters that will be taken to court.
