LG boss pledges support to new Mkpunando monarch

TRANSITION Committee Chairman, Anambra East Local Government Council, Callistsus Obi Nweke has pledged to recommend the new traditional ruler of Mkpunando, Johnson Onyeaka (Ezediorama of Mkpunando) to Anambra State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs as the new traditional ruler of the community.

  The council chairman made this known in his office at Anambra East Council Secretariat, Otuocha, when the new traditional ruler and the dignitaries of Mkpunando paid him a courtesy visit.

  Addressing the audience, Nweke affirmed that Mkpunando community had earlier sent a letter to his office expressing their displeasure and dethronement of their former traditional ruler, Igwe Alex Edozienuo, whom they alleged had not been carrying them along in the governance of the town and they have presented a ruler they want, saying he had no option than to support by recommending their new ruler to the state government.

  Earlier in their separate speeches, Chief Anazohi Okwuadiazi, Onowu Mkpunando and Rev Edwin Chukwuemeka, immediate past Chairman, Mkpunando Town Union, pointed out that the community followed due process in the choice and selection of the traditional ruler and that they no longer need the former traditional ruler and have unanimously chosen Johson Onyeaka as their new traditional ruler, adding that they had come to government at the grassroots.

  In his reaction, the new traditional ruler, Igwe Onyeaka thanked  God for his enthronement and promised to rule his people with fear of God, service to humanity, carrying everybody along, listening to useful suggestions of his subjects aimed at promoting tranquility and development of Mkpunando kingdom.

  Delivering a vote of thanks, the legal Adviser, Mkpunando Town Union, Rolex Ifeanyi Iloaka thanked God that the community has been liberated from bondage. He equally thanked the local government chairman for co-operating with the progressive minds of his people; and dignitaries of Mkpunando for their understanding and unity of purpose.
