Rotary Club seeks partnership with group to promote Igbo language

THE President, Rotary Club of Awka, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, District 9142, Abuchi Nwozor has advocated the need for promotion of Igbo language and culture among  younger generation in order for it not to go into extinction.

Speaking during a courtesy visit to Otu Suwakwa Igbo, Nwozor said the month of September annually was the literacy year of the club.

The partnership became necessary in order to promote Igbo language and culture across borders through education.

He regretted that young Igbo generation was gradually abandoning their cultural identities.

According to him, various programs of the club, including series of lectures on Igbo culture, were aimed at reorienting young Igbo generation who have seemingly abandoned their cultural identities by embracing foreign languages and dress codes.

Receiving members of the organisation,  President of Otu Suwakwa Igbo Worldwide, Professor Pita Ejiofo, commended successive Anambra State Governments and other individuals for being at the forefront of promoting Igbo language and culture through logistics supports, adding that there was still room for improvement.

While urging the delegation to explore opportunities in media industry to promote their noble objectives, Professor Ejiofo called for establishment of more Igbo desk offices in the educational sector to help in achieving the objectives.

In attendance were Past Presidents of Rotary Club of UNIZIK, Reverend Canon Patrick Okoye, Mr. Ogechukwu Ezeajughi and Mrs Florence Obi.
