SOCIETY of Young Nigerian Writers (SYNW) Anambra Chapter has commended the Managing Director and CEO of Anambra Newspapers and Printing Corporation, Sir Chuka Nnabuife for their immense support during the previous Chinua Achebe Literary Festival
The president of the association, Izunna Okafor who led a delegation to pay a courtesy visit on the MD in his office, expressed profound gratitude to Sir Chuka Nnabuife and ANPC for their partnership and support in their numerous activities especially during last year’s edition of Dr Chinua Achebe Literary Festival, adding that the organisation has been on front line in promoting individual and collective works of the association.
In appreciation, the society presented a letter of commendation to him for his support which includes publicising the event in both English and Igbo language and crowning it with presenting awards to the winners of the essay competition held in honour of Chinua Achebe which is the first ever writing competition held in his honour anywhere in the world.
Speaking to the group, the MD, Chuka Nnabuife expressed his happiness especially towards the passion the society put in things they do; stating that he is an author of three books and had also co-authored three other books asides the numerous essays he had written and others that would be published very soon.
He briefly discussed his writing career as youngest among most members of the similar society in Osun State and gave few insights on how the upcoming project of the SYNW should go; talked about the legend, Chinua Achebe and the fact that he has been recognised by the society as an icon.
“I love the fact that you identified an icon and key into his path. I like the fact that you recognised him and I’d like you to stick to it because it’s a way to climb to public notice”
Sir Nnabuife also encouraged them to metamorphose the event from a day program to probably a week program to the great name of Chinua Achebe. “Turn this event into a feast that would include Chinua Achebe’s lecture, exhibition and some other events”.
He further pledged to support the society like he had always done alongside the media house.
“It’s been years since this legend died and there’s nothing Nigerians have done for his remembrance asides the books he wrote. Past legends like Nnamdi Azikiwe, Alex Ekwuewe and Chukwuemeka Odumegu Ojukwu have things in their names.
“This festival is in his honour to monumentalise his name like it should be. Like the name of every legend should be and this is the little we’re doing for now to achieve this feat,” said Nnabuife.
