#EndSARS: Anambra panel receives 33 complaints

ANAMBRA State panel of inquiry investigating allegations of extra judicial killing by defunct Special Anti -Robbery Squads (SARS), police brutality and other public complaints against the Nigeria Police today said it has received 33 complaints from members of the public.

Chairman of the panel, Justice Veronica Umeh  made this known during a press conference in Awka while explaining that the complaints were received in 29 hard copies and four e-mails from aggrieved people.

Justice Umeh who said that the panel was inaugurated on October 20 by Gov. Willie Obiano also reiterated terms of reference to include: receive and investigate the complaints of police brutality relating to torture, high handedness and alleged extra-judicial killings by SARS and police in Anambra State.

Umeh also included evaluating evidences presented and other surrounding circumstances and drawing conclusions regarding the validity of the complaints as well as recommending appropriate sanctions and proffering solutions.

Other roles of the panel are recommending compensation and other remedial matters where appropriate to the state government and submitting report to the state government within one month.

Justice Umeh, therefore,  urged the 34-member panel of inquiry to be diligent in  discharging their duties at all times.
