In Enugu, 3 children dumped in car die, 2 survive

FIVE children have been discovered dumped in an abandoned car in Itchi,  Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area, Enugu State, with three of the five children already dead while two were rescued alive.

The incident which happened at Umuakenyi-Itchi community  threw the area into apprehension and shock.

According to an  anonymous source, the five children (three girls and two boys), who left to fetch water in a private borehole on Sunday,  got missing, prompting their parents to raise alarm, but were found dumped in an abandoned car the following day.

“It was somebody that came to fetch water this morning that heard some noise inside the car and raised alarm. The car was opened and behold, the five children were inside the car; with three of them dead while two were still alive,” he stated.

Narrating the incident further, he stated that a clothe belonging to one of the dead girls who was found in the abandoned car, was discovered hanging on a tree close to the compound they went to fetch water.

 According to the source, one of the surviving kids said they came to fetch water but met nobody in the house, only for three masked persons on red clothes to emerge from nowhere and force them into the abandoned vehicle and lock them up.

According to his report, they were there until some of them lost consciousness.

The abductors checked on them at the middle of the night and discovered that three of them were already dead.

The survivors (a boy and a girl) pretended to be dead and the abductors simply slammed the door of the car shut and left.

He added that the matter was reported to the local police divisional  headquarters in Ibagwa-Aka and the owner of the house ( name withheld) was arrested.

The three corpses were taken to the mortuary while the two survivors were taken to hospital.

Meanwhile, as at the time of filing this report, Enugu State Police Command was yet to comment on the incident as efforts to get the PPRO on phone did  not yield positive result.
